Valentines Spicebox

Our Valentine’s Day dinner box contains recipes and spices measured out to make a delicious light and fragrant South East Asian style curry seasoned with spices that are renowned for their aphrodisiac qualities, followed by rich dark chocolate pots flavoured with Tahitian vanilla.

Valentines Curry

Cinnamon, black pepper, ginger, coriander, mustard and fennel have all been revered over the centuries for their powerful properties. In ancient Rome the word ‘cinnamon’ was akin to the modern use of ‘sweetheart’, so highly prized were its love inducing properties. The Arabs and Hindus mention spices such as cloves, cardamon and ginger in their texts on love - spices are thought to enhance the senses and raise the heart rate, mimicking feelings of love. The addition of lime leaves, lemongrass and rose petals in the sauce lighten the ‘curry’ flavour and add a delicate floral scent, (after all it’s not Valentines’ Day without a rose in there somewhere!).

2 cloves garlic
A small piece of ginger

Tahitian Vanilla Chocolate Pots

Vanilla is native to Mexico, where it’s thought of as an aphrodisiac - a belief that stems from the legend of Xanat, daughter of a fertility goddess who fell in love with a mortal. The story says that unable to be with him, Xanat transformed herself into the vanilla orchid, so its intoxicating aroma could provide pleasure to her human suitor, reminding him of her transcendent love. It was also used by the Aztecs, along with chocolate to concoct love potions - powerful stuff!

You Need:

190ml double cream
50g good quality dark chocolate
1 tbsp sugar
Red berries to serve (optional)

recipe contents:
TAHITIAN VANILLA POD

preparation time: 5 minutes plus 10 minutes cooking time (and time to cool and set)
