  belachan powder

belachan powder

(dried shrimp powder also known as terasi, belacan or kapi)

origin: Indonesia

ingredients; corn flour, salt, shrimp

Dried shrimps are an important ingredient in South-East Asian cooking and this fine powder is much easier to use than the Shrimp paste which is exactly the same ingredient - just mixed with oil and pressed into a block.

uses: add a pinch to any South-East Asian curries, sauces, soups, sambal, dressings or salads. Belachan (or belacan) dried shrimp powder can be used in the same quantities as shrimp paste - just a pinch as the flavour is very strong!
