A powerful violet-like aroma and slightly bitter aftertaste, orris root powder is generally used as a fixative in potpourri, although it is still used in a small number of spice blends. A small amount mixed with cinnamon is reputed to be a useful (and impossible to resist) way of attracting a new lover!
