Date Night in Amritsar
The rich and satisfying cuisine of Amritsar, Punjab..
Amritsar is the 2nd largest city in the state of Punjab, whose name translates as ‘land of the five rivers’. The rivers, as well as producing a glut of freshwater fish produce lush, fertile lands that are fantastic for farming wheat and dairy. To begin we’ve got one of Amritsar’s popular street snacks of fish coated in yogurt, flour and spices then fried until crispy, served with a simple salad.
Next up is one of the area's most famous exports - a true favourite of tandoori chicken with a buttery makhani dhal and breads topped with nigella seeds, known as kulcha. Finally India’s version of fudge, pistachio barfi flavoured with green cardamon.

Fantastic New Year’s Eve meal. Staying in really is the new going out!
Really good spicebox, loved the fried fish, something different and the main was really good too.
Glad you enjoyed this, looks like a dreamy date night meal!
All delicious but the Dhal and Kulcha were superb
WOW this looks incredible! The kulchas look so fluffy and delicious, plus we're loving the beautiful patterned crockery!
Our second date night from The spicery and it did not disappoint! We especially enjoyed the Amritsari fish and the Pistachio Barfi as we hadn't had anything like them before. Now looking forward to our Istanbul menu!
3 spectacular courses there Louise! Great to hear you enjoyed it, and the food looks stunning! (nice plates too!)
Easy to follow instructions and the Barfi dessert was the perfect end to the meal!!
That food looks even better on your gorgeous placemats! It's great to hear that you found the process nice and easy to follow, and enjoyed the sweet taste of Barfi to finish it all off!
Absolutely delicious! The spice mixes were so flavorful. We loved every bite!
Look at those Kulchas - fabulous! Great work, we're so glad you loved your taste of Amritsar!
Fabulous meal, and the leftovers tasted good for lunch the next day too.
It looks like you did a fantastic job, and how lovely to be able to enjoy it all over again the next day! That Kulcha looks delicious, as does the vibrant green Barfi, and a nice strong cup of tea to wash it down is the perfect accompaniment!
Tandoori chicken full of flavour and balanced nicely with the dhal and raita. Will also definitely be making the kulchas again - surprisingly simple!
This plate of food looks simply delicious - great job! And we're sure you'll make the Kulchas over and over again, now that you know how simple they are to cook!
Absolutely fantastic. So easy to follow and it all tasted amazing. My fiancé is a chef and he was suitably impressed with what I'd cooked for him!
When it gets the thumbs up from a chef, you know it's good! Great job, Lucy - it all looks fantastic. Happy spicing!
I have been using the spicery for 2 years now. They have all been exciting to try and we always look forward to our next Date Night package. They also make a really good gift.
