Date Night in Cape Town
The spectacular city of Cape Town has been a trading hub for centuries and has therefore had influences from many different countries resulting in a fascinating cultural mix as well as some fantastic food! To begin our meal we’ve got samoosas, a familiar fried snack of Indian origin served with blatjang - a spicy apricot chutney. Next up is a simple Cape Malay chicken and potato curry made with mother-in-law masala - a blend containing lots of chilli and nutmeg. Finally we’ve got koeksisters, South Africa's answer to the doughnut which literally translates as ‘cake sizzler’ flavoured with aniseed and drenched in a syrup of cassia and orange.

Product Rating (10):
Loved this one. Samoosas were really tasty (we've saved 2 for lunch tomorrow!) The curry was quite spicy and full of flavour. The koeksisters were sweet and sticky. Lovely! I have to say portion sizes on all these meals has been spot on. Even my husband has been full!!
Clear details, but quite labour intensive. The main course was nice, but I thought the flavour needed rounding out more. My main gripe was that this menu was extremely heavy on fat and carbs. Semi deep fried starter and fried doughballs for desert. No no no!!
We're glad you enjoyed the main course, but are sorry to hear that you found the rest of the menu to be too heavy on fat and carbs. It's certainly intended to be a 'treat' meal, and quite indulgent! Thanks for your feedback, we'll take another look at this.
We had no idea what to expect and were beyond delighted with a meal that was not only fun and easy to make but also introduced us to tastes that were purely sublime. I had so much fun making Samoosa dough and we both were mesmerised by the Koeksisters with orange syrup! And the fun didn’t stop with the meal production, because then we got to eat it! The spice blends are perfect.
What a perfect date night! We're so happy to hear how much you loved your taste of Cape Town - it looks like a you did an amazing job!
Scrumptious! Easy to prep, full of flavour! A new favourite!
We're so pleased to hear how much you loved your taste of Cape Town! Happy spicing!
Great curry. Super samosas. Cracking koeksisters.
Yum - great job, guys! We're so happy to hear how much you enjoyed your taste of Cape Town!
Really tasty curry, kroeksisters we're super sweet, should have made them a bit smaller.
Every single component looks delicious, Sarah - great job! And yep, those Koeksisters are definitely one for the sweet-toothed!
The starter and main were both really lovely. I enjoyed making both and both were tasty. I didn’t make the dessert as two deep fried courses in one sitting felt a bit too much
It's great to hear how much you enjoyed both making and eating the starter and main course. You're right, 2 deep fried courses in one courses might be a bit too indulgent for some! But we really hope you enjoy the dessert when you get round to it. Happy spicing!
The samosas were good. I wasn't keen on the Cape Malay curry, though, which although spicy lacked depth of flavour.
The usual high quality flavour, follow the instructions carefully and you can’t go wrong!
Rarely a problem - regular purchases, quickly delivered.
