Jalfrezi Night

Jalfrezi consists of meat, peppers, onions and green chillies all fried together in a thick, rich and spicy sauce. Typically it’s made with lots of sliced green chillies, though this version is medium heat without them - add as many as you can handle! The jalfrezi is served here with crispy masala poppadoms, radish kachumber salad, green mango pickle and a sweet mint raita.

  • 500g diced chicken (thighs are best)
  • 2 peppers (any colour)
  • 4 tomatoes
  • 200g radishes
  • 1 large onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • Fresh ginger
  • 25g bunch of coriander
  • 2 green chillies (optional)
  • 2 lemons
  • 1 medium mango (or 200g ready-prepared)
  • 150g natural yogurt (full fat is best) or dairy-free alternative
  • 2 ½ tsp sugar
  • 20g cashew nuts or peanuts
  • 100g plain flour or gluten-free alternative
  • 100g gram (chickpea) flour or plain flour
  • Rice to serve
  • Oil for frying (sunflower or vegetable oil is best)
