Curry or ‘kare’ is one of the national dishes of Japan - though it didn’t exist there until the British introduced curry powder just over 100 years ago.

It’s a huge favourite across the country and is most famously served, as here, with a breaded cutlet known as ‘katsu’.

Fried chicken is a modern Japanese Christmas tradition apparently so what better than this Christmas Katsu with spiced red cabbage. Scrummy!

Veggie tofu Katsu curry! No compromise on taste in this plant-based dish. I think my son was hinting when he bought me a meat-free subscription, but when food tastes this good it’s no miss. Even hubby was a convert. Sublime!

Looks great, Lindsey - we're so pleased to hear that you didn't miss the meat in this dish, and hope you'll discover loads more amazing meat-free dishes with your subscription!
