This is a great way to use a glut of any type of apple this autumn - try Bramleys for a sharper taste, or dessert apples for a sweeter chutney. Here we’re using a combination of 4 different chillies along with the warming flavours of ginger and long pepper to give this chutney a gentle spicy kick.

Spicy Apple Chutney Recipe:
PREP 10 mins
COOK 40 mins
HEAT 2
Serves 4 as a condiment
You Need:
1 small onion - finely chopped
500g apples (any type) - peeled, cored and cut into bite-size pieces
50g raisins or sultanas (optional)
200ml vinegar (white wine or cider vinegar is best)
200g sugar
1 portion of SPICY APPLE CHUTNEY BLEND
Method:
Cook the onion, apples, raisins, vinegar, sugar, SPICY APPLE CHUTNEY BLEND and ½ tsp salt for 30 minutes or until the apples are completely soft, any liquid has evaporated and the mixture is beginning to caramelise, mashing the apples up slightly as they cook (it’s ready when you stir a spoon through the centre and it leaves a trail)
Leave to cool, then serve with cheese and biscuits or cold cuts (store any leftover chutney in the fridge for up to 4 weeks)

We made this at the weekend but used dried apricots, what a little gem this is with cheese.

Yum, great idea to use apricots instead of apples. This sounds delicious!
