Sri Lankan Kottu Roti
A delicious meal with all the island flavours of Sri Lanka...
SERVES: 4
Kottu translates from Sinhalese as chopped, and this hugely popular Sri Lankan street food consists of chopped up roti (a type of flatbread), stir-fried with chicken, vegetables and egg. It’s typically cooked on a heated iron sheet using two blunt blades to mix and chop - a distinctive sound which can be heard everywhere in Sri Lanka! For dessert we’ve got a traditional dessert of Portuguese origin known as love cake flavoured with rose, cinnamon and cardamon. All the spices in this cake were regarded as powerful aphrodisiacs, including rose which is known as the ‘queen of love’!

Beautiful curry and fun to cook.
I cooked this meal for my girlfriend's birthday and it was a total success! Really tasty! I couldn't find any paneer cheese in any of the grocery stores around me, so I decided to use halloumi instead, which also worked perfectly fine. The lunu miris had quite a kick, but we both enjoy bit of heat, so it was great. And the love cake was sensational. We both enjoyed the meal very much. It was really fun cooking!
That's really great to hear Miquel! Happy spicing!
Hi picture does not due justice to dish but in my defence second helping lol. This dish was amazing it had heat to it then cucumber cooled and the pineapple added a sweetness it was a taste revelation and the cake was incredible a sweet treat. The spice boxes have inspired my cooking and reignited my love of cooking. Great job The Spicery. Thank you

Great job, Rozie - this all looks delicious! We are so pleased to hear that you were pleasantly surprised by the Sri Lankan flavours. Happy spicing!
We loved this combination of Sri Lankan curried street food and Love cake. The Kottu Roti was really tasty, and felt a feast with the various side dishes including coconut sambal, a pineapple and cucumber salad and a type of chilli sauce (lunu mitis). The dessert was a delicious Love cake, made special by the various spices, rose petals and syrup. We had this as a Father's Day meal and the fantastic food helped make it a real celebration.
Wow, what a lovely, vibrant feast! A perfect meal to celebrate Father's Day. We're so glad to hear how much you enjoyed all of these different elements!

Exciting, fresh flavours with a mixture of heat, sweet and savoury. Who would have thought pineapple and cucumber would work so well together!
