Sri Lankan Wattaka with Lunu Miris - BBE 11/22
Sri Lankan Wattaka is a dish of curried pumpkin and spinach, made with coconut milk and flavoured with the spices that are key to the cooking on the island - cinnamon, mustard seeds and curry leaves. These ingredients are also prominent in the Sri Lankan curry powder that forms the base of the dish and is used in many of the local curries. We’re serving it here with a fiery chilli chutney known as lunu miris.

Curry was nice but a bit bland and really needed the Lunu Miris to bring out all the flavours. We made it using a combination of squash and sweet potato and it worked really well and tasted as good the following day for leftovers!
This is definitely a meal we will look to do again. We used butternut squash and the combination of the wattaka and the lunu miris together with some cooked rice is just beautiful, and having the real heat in the lunu miris means that each diner can make the dish as hot or as mild as they like. Our top tip is to make this the day before as the flavour combination is even better the next day.
We're so pleased to hear how much you enjoyed this dish, Erin, and the fact that you can alter the heat level to suit your preference. Great tip to make it the day before to give the flavours time to infuse!
What a delightful surprise! The curry is delicious but the lunu miris really lifts it to another level of flavour burst. Loved this one and will definitely buy again.
We're all about happy surprises! Great to hear how much you enjoyed the flavours in this one, Maura.

Yum - great job, Alice. Sorry you found the curry a bit bland, but we're glad that the Lunu Miris worked well to bring out the flavours. Happy spicing!
