A sumptuous meal from the Golden City...

Prague is renowned for being one of the most romantic cities in the world, not only for its Baroque architecture and cobbled streets, but also for its cosy eateries filled with richly-flavoured delights. To start we’ve got potato pancakes topped with mushrooms and a delicious herb blend.

The main is goulash – a Hungarian dish that was elevated to national favourite status across Slavic Eastern Europe (including Prague!) during the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Poppy seeds are a hugely popular ingredient amongst the many bakeries in Prague so to finish we’ve got a light and airy poppy seed cake.

PANCAKE BLEND: Toasted caraway, black pepper, onion, garlic, parsley, chives

PICKLE SPICES: Dill seeds, dill leaf, yellow mustard, garlic

  • 300g diced beef (or pork)
  • 3 rashers of bacon
  • 600g floury potatoes
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 120g mushrooms (any type)
  • 1 red pepper
  • ½ cucumber
  • 150g sour cream
  • 30g butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 50ml vinegar (white wine or cider vinegar are best)
  • 75g plain flour
  • 60g sugar
  • 3 tbsp sour cherry jam (or use your favourite flavour!)
