Nepali Momos ~ Dal Bhat
Momos - the most popular street food in the region of Kathmandu, Nepal - are a type of steamed filled dumpling, with the word ‘momo’ coming from a Chinese word meaning steamed bread. The dough is simply made from flour, water and oil and encases a mixture of mince, onion and fragrant spices. Momos are always served with a momo achar (or pickle) made from tomatoes, toasted sesame and tongue-tingling peppercorns. For the main event we have a Nepali staple, dal bhat or dal with rice, which is served at every meal (including breakfast!), as well as a simple Nepali vegetable curry called tarkari, a crunchy salad and a hot green chilli pickle.

Absolutely delicious! Every bite was bursting with flavor from fresh veg and high quality spices. When I can't travel I travel cook and man this kit did not disappoint :D
Have developed a real taste for Momos and this spice box was a winner in our household. Would definitely buy again
It's great to hear that these delicious little dumplings were a winner!
First time I have eaten Nepali Momos never mind make them. Delicious. I found the recipe good to follow, it did take me longer to make but, I think that was due to me double checking what I was doing. Will be making this again!
It's always good to try something different (and a bit out of your comfort zone) and it looks like you did a fantastic job! We're so happy to hear how much you enjoyed this dish!
Really tasty and definitely enjoyed making some unusual dishes! Couldn’t believe it after the prep and cooking when I looked up and realised what I’d created! A great excuse for a date night during lockdown
Look at those momos Elle - a work of art! Well done and glad to hear it went well
The Dal Bhat was really tasty and the Momos were fun to make, need a little practice though!
YUM- it looks like you made marvellous Momos! Hats off to the chef!
Great memories of Nepal with this one - we ate this every day on our Annapurna Base Camp trek. As they say 'Dal Bhat power, 24 hour!'
We love it when a meal instantly transports us back to the wonderful places we've visited- now all you need is a view of the beautiful snow capped Himalayas in the background!
Very tasty. The momos were the best. Took a long time to cook. That was the downside to this recipe.
Glad you enjoyed this- sorry to hear it took a long time to cook but the momos are really marvellous!
We loved this dish. The momos were fantastic but my favourite was the dal.
YUM everything looks fantastic- we wish we could try some!
Great recipe and the Momos were fab - the dhal was great too (I did cook for longer than the recipe stated as I prefer it quite thick) and loved the chilli kick from the green chilli pickle!
Brilliant- glad you enjoyed this recipe, we love these magnificent Momos too!
Alfresco Nepali momos - all you need is a view of the Himalayas in the background and you could be in a garden in Kathmandu! Looks great, glad to hear you enjoyed it Sarah
Friday Night Curry better than eating out. Nepali Momos and Dal, really different, and absolutely delicious!
They look brilliant, Alison!
Having been to Nepal and tasted the delights of Momos I was excited to make these. We really loved them, they tasted so authentic and I may order another box. Just would like a vegetarian version although the meat was not overpowering.
It's great to hear that you really enjoyed this box! I'll pass your feedback on to the recipe developers that you would like a vegetarian version- you can also always get in contact with us if you would like advice on vegetarian alternatives for the recipes and we'll be happy to advise, happy spicing!
No Cauli so used Broccoli for the Tarkari. The Dal was delicious, the Momo Achar wonderful and everything else perfect. Tomorrow night we will be eating Nepali Momos. Can't wait.
Fantastic- looks like a vibrant and flavoursome meal! Glad you enjoyed this so much- we would love to eat some Momos right now!
A lot of work for little reward! What a faff this meal is to make with so many steps and techniques required. The only bit that was any good were the momos, but the rest of it I would have happily binned. The dahl was like brown sludge and tasted similar to that, whilst the green chilli pickle was rocket fuel hot. I like spice, but not that much. As for the cauliflower tarkari, give it the last rites and move on. Carrot and Cucumber salad, not very exciting... A severe disappointment with nearly 3 hours of my life wasted.
So sorry to hear this wasn't one of your favourites! But we're glad that you enjoyed the momos. If you get in touch with us via email we can arrange sending you something else that you might prefer!
There is an awful lot to do and the result was bitter and didn’t have the flavour I was looking for. You win some, you lose some.
So sorry to hear this wasn't one of your favourites! I have passed your feedback on to our recipe developers so that they can look into this, in the meantime, if you get in touch with us via email we can arrange sending you something else that you might prefer!
Amazing! Momos will be made again
Fantastic- glad you really enjoyed this! Marvellous momos are so delicious!
I never thought I'd be able to cook steamed buns but the Momos were so easy to make and delicious! The cauliflower was my favourite part of this dish. A mild curry but add in the green chilli pickle and wooomf! there's the heat!!
YUM, everything looks amazing! The Momos are so perfectly shaped- hats off to the chef!
