Arabian Lamb Saltah with Zhug
Saltah, the national dish of Yemen, is a simple stew flavoured with a mix of spices known as hawayji; a blend of black pepper, caraway, green cardamon, turmeric and saffron. On its own it’s a fairly humble dish, but the flavours are hugely elevated with the addition of two unusual condiments: hilbeh, which provides a tangy freshness and zhug, which provides a little touch of heat!

Very disappointing Not worth the effort Very happy with other products
This is worthy of a good review. I made it yesterday for supper and there was much 'chop smacking' going on around the table. If anyone is considering this wonderful meal then do ensure you include the 2 condiments as they add something special. It was very straight forward to put together and along with 4 other Spicery meals we've trialled, it WILL become a regular. Fantastic.
Thanks for your great feedback about this wonderful dish! Everything looks so vibrant and fresh - it's fantastic to hear this will become a regular!
This is an unusual dish which we really enjoyed. It is a stew with curry-like characteristics but a wholly distinctive flavour, neither Indian subcontinental nor Levantine middle east. The dish does require the Zhug tomato and Hilbeh coriander accompaniments to ensure the full flavour is experienced. I also recommend a bowl of chopped tomato with a touch of fresh coriander and mint alongside to add extra fresh uplift. But that is not essential. Well worth trying this.
Thanks for your lovely feedback about this fragrant dish, that's a great shout adding chopped tomato and fresh coriander / mint too - one for us to try ourselves!
