Balti Pie with Gajar Matar
Whilst we’re not claiming to have invented the balti pie (it’s been a favourite in football grounds in the Midlands since the 1990's, and the Antipodeans have long been fond of a curry-flavoured pie), we are saying that our version is pretty good! This pie and gravy has all of the flavours of a classic Birmingham balti curry, swathed in a delicious, buttery shortcrust pastry flavoured with ajowan and dotted with nigella seeds. We're serving it with a classic side of carrots and peas, with an Indian twist, also known as gajar matar.

A family member brought this for us as part of a Christmas goodie bag and I baked a Balti pie for my neighbor who was under the weather and unenthusiastic about more cold turkey leftovers, she was delighted with it and immediately ordered several Balti pie kits. I've since ordered more too, it makes such a nice change from a regular pie. I will try some of the other kits soon too. The kits arrive beautifully packaged and make excellent gifts for foodies.
Love this ordered it several times. The pastry is so lovely with the spices! Delicious!
