Here at the Spicery, December is a very special month. It's the busiest time of the year for us as we host dinners, workshops, and our Open Day as well as making and sending spicy Christmas presents across the globe!

An additional special part of the month is our Decembake competition; a member of staff bakes a sweet or savoury treat for all the staff to enjoy with our 11am coffee. This year we documented the whole month of bakes on Instagram, here are some of the highlights!

We started off the month with these classic mince pies from Andrea, served with a sweet nutmeg cream whipped with a dash of sherry.

Levi's 'Bear Claws', inspired by his travels to Lithuania. Flaky puff pastry stuffed with a banana custard filling...

Chris wowed us with his Decembake, a dark chocolate fondant cake with salted caramel and a tangy raspberry chocolate mirror glaze!

This tangy cheddar was melted, golden and bubbling in (our other) Chris' Restaurant St John's inspired welsh rarebit.

Our development chef Matt served up steamy Pork and Ginger Potstickers with a sticky Hoisin and Sweet Chilli sauce for his "Decembake"!

Designer Maria brought in a beautiful Iranian carrot, almond, pistachio and coconut cake served with ground rose and cardamon cream...

And the winner (with the most likes and comments) was Spicerer Rosie! She made us a delicious chocolate and cinnamon banana bread with a hint of cayenne pepper, topped with a salted caramel sauce and candied banana chips...
