Date Night in Java
| Description | The Indonesian island of Java is home to over 145 million people - a diverse population made up of mostly indigenous cultures. Over 90% of the population is Muslim so chicken and seafood are widely eaten there. Here we have a rich chicken curry flavoured with turmeric, cassia and lemongrass served with crispy corn (jagung) fritters. There are over 300 varieties of sambal (a spicy condiment) in Indonesia, so on the side we've got a tomato version called sambal bajak. Dessert is Apam balik meaning 'turnover pancake' - they can be sweet or savoury and fillings can range from cheese to chocolate, but here we’re using banana and caramelised peanuts served with a delicious galangal ice cream. |

Another amazing date night dinner! All the flavours worked so well together, really enjoyed this meal. The Bakwan Jagung were the star of the show though, as they were so different and so delicious! Light and crispy prawn delights... will definitely be making them again!
Every element of this spice kit is wonderful, and we thoroughly recommend you try this it you haven't before. We've had this kit twice now, and have just bought another to put in the cupboard! The desert is to die for, but the whole thing is very tasty.

Easy to follow. Lovely flavours. Great dessert recipe of peanut brittle, banana wrapped in a pancake served with coconut icecream.

Sometimes a bit confusing to follow. But the result was well worth it. Only down side was lots of washing up for the many components for the main meal.

The Bakwan Jagung (corn fritters) were brilliant, easy to do and tasy, something I wouldn't have tried without the Spicery. Also the Lemongrass ice cream with caramalised nuts and Rujak was delicious.

Passports packed to sample the delicious and unusual flavours. Lemongrass ice cream with tamarind flavoured fresh pineapple and cucumber finished off with caramelised nuts...who’d have thought!
