Five Spice
The origin of the Chinese five spice blend is shrouded in mystery but it is believed the Chinese were trying to create a ‘Wonder Powder’ which would consist of all five flavour groups: sour, bitter, sweet, umami and salty. A delicious blend of earthy spices such as cloves, cinnamon and star anise form a lip-licking combination of tastes which transform any meal into a traditional Chinese feast. In many ways the Chinese conquered this successfully - despite the fact that the origins of the powder may be lost, this magnificent blend has stood the test of time.

Product Rating (1):
This is one I always keep in stock - flavour is very different from the various curry blends and it works well with stir fry in particular, as well as with various noodle dishes, which we cook a lot of in our house. Aromatic anise with a bit of a hot kick, but not so hot as to overpower the other ingredients. Please keep this one in stock!
