Souvlaki Seasoning

If you’ve ever had the fortune to visit Greece or Cyprus, you’ll most certainly have come across their beloved souvlaki kebabs. Grilled on the BBQ and eaten with pitta breads, yogurt and a crunchy salad they’re a true taste of holidays in the sun. The traditional flavourings in souvlaki are oregano and garlic but we’ve added cinnamon, allspice and sumac to make them extra special!  


  • 500g diced chicken or pork OR 2 courgettes and 225g halloumi cheese - cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1 lemon
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Pitta breads, yogurt and salad for 4 to serve
  • 4 skewers


  1. Mix the SOUVLAKI SEASONING with the oil and the juice of ½ the lemon then stir in the chicken. Thread the chicken onto the 4 skewers then leave to marinate for at least 15 minutes
  2. Preheat the grill or BBQ now
  3. Grill the souvlaki skewers for 7 minutes on each side or until the chicken is cooked through and beginning to char around the edges
  4. Squeeze the juice of the remaining ½ lemon over the souvlaki skewers then serve with the pitta breads, yogurt and salad on the side

SOUVLAKI SEASONING (1 portion/2 tbsp): Oregano, marjoram, lovage, mint, garlic, sumac, allspice, cinnamon, black pepper, salt
