The recipe for Coca-Cola has been kept secret for decades, but here you can make your own Spicery version of the world's most popular soft drink. The key flavours are coriander seed, bitter orange, nutmeg and cassia, with an earthy flavour from the kola nuts and a tiny bit of heat from smoked chipotle chilli!
SPICERY COLA BLEND (1 portion = 3 tbsp): vanilla, lavender, star anise, bitter orange, nutmeg, coriander, cassia, kola nut, chipotle chilli, fenugreek
May contain CELERY, MUSTARD and SESAME. Allergens are listed in CAPITALS
Spicery Cola Recipe:
PREP 5 mins
COOK 10 mins
1 lime - zested then halved for juicing
100g dark brown sugar
1 litre sparkling water or soda water
Ice cubes and slices of lemon to serve (optional)
1 portion of SPICERY COLA BLEND
Boil the juice and zest of the lime with the sugar, 200ml water and the SPICERY COLA BLEND in a covered pan for 5 minutes or until the sugar has completely dissolved
Strain the mixture into a jug (discarding the lime zest and SPICERY COLA BLEND) then leave to cool
Mix the syrup with the sparkling water at a ratio of 1:5 (1 portion of syrup to 5 portions of sparkling water)
Serve in glasses with plenty of ice and a slice of lemon (if using)
