Root Beer Blend

Root beer is an incredibly popular soft drink across America that gets its delicious vanilla and cherry flavour from sassafras (or more commonly as here, sarsaparilla bark). This plant is native to the US, and combined with liquorice, birch, star anise and coriander makes a fabulous sweet-scented syrup full of complex flavours.

This plant is native to the US, and combined with liquorice, birch, star anise and coriander makes a fabulous sweet-scented syrup full of complex flavours.

ROOT BEER BLEND (1 portion = 3 tbsp): sarsaparilla, ginger, liquorice root, dandelion root, birch leaf, cassia, star anise, coriander

May contain CELERY, MUSTARD and SESAME. Allergens are listed in CAPITALS

Root Beer Recipe:

PREP 0 mins
COOK 10 mins
HEAT 0
Serves 4

You Need:

50g light brown sugar
1 litre sparkling water, soda water or lemonade
Ice cubes to serve (optional)
1 portion of ROOT BEER BLEND

Method:

Boil the sugar with 200ml water and the ROOT BEER BLEND in a covered pan for 5 minutes or until the sugar has completely dissolved
Strain the mixture into a jug (discarding the ROOT BEER BLEND) then leave to cool
Mix the syrup with the sparkling water at a ratio of 1:5 (1 portion of syrup to 5 portions of sparkling water)
Serve in glasses with plenty of ice (if using)

Packaging format:
