January's Kitchen Highlights!
This January we've been focussing on fighting the cold and sharpening up after our indulgences over the Christmas period!
We've made this easy by introducing A Spice A day, sharing the traditional uses and health giving properties of spices.
Nutmeg infused milk, fennel pasta, saffron tea and turmeric noodles are just some of the easy ways to introduce spices into your everyday meals...
Take a look at the recipes and remedies from January over on our Kitchen Blog
Spicerers Jess and Elizabeth also enjoyed their spiced birthday fusion meals (a Spicery birthday tradition!) in January.
Jess enjoyed a delicious Mexican-style Shakshuka with black beans and spiced with chipotle and ancho chillies.
Elizabeth's birthday meal was Lasagne inspired by Jamaican Patties, spiced with Jamaican curry powder and a turmeric white sauce!
We also enjoyed hosting guests from Bristol Refugee Rights in our Spicery Kitchen this month, including Refat from who taught development chef Matt a few tips and techniques for traditional Bangladeshi cuisine.
We were also joined by Mirfat who came in to cook some traditional Sudanese dishes with us; (pictured right) Tagalia, a stew made with powdered okra and dried meat served with a savoury pudding known as Asida. We were also served a potato and beef stew known as Batata ma Lahme w Riz (that's quite a mouthful!) and an Aswad salad. Delicious and something completely new for us, so thanks Mirfat!
Our development chefs are also busy in the kitchen testing and writing recipes for our upcoming Spiceboxes for the Summer! Our classic Barbecue subscription will be back and we've been testing out South African Brai for our lunches!
As January comes to a close we look forward to getting into the Carnival spirit this February, with many surprises in store!
