Jalfrezi with Lemon Raita

Jalfrezi is a delicious restaurant curry consisting of meat, peppers and onions all fried together in a thick, rich and spicy sauce. Typically it’s made with lots of sliced green chillies, though this version is medium heat without them - add as many as you can handle. It’s served here with a cooling lemon raita in case you went overboard on the chillies!

JALFREZI SEEDS: Cumin seed, brown mustard seed
JALFREZI MASALA: Coriander leaf, amchur, toasted (cumin, coriander, black cardamon, black pepper, green cardamon, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, mace, bay, nutmeg), chilli powder
RAITA BLEND: Toasted cumin, toasted mustard, mint leaf, coriander leaf

  • 500g diced chicken (thighs are best) or 2 medium courgettes for a veg/vegan version
  • 2 medium onions 
  • 3 cloves of garlic 
  • Fresh ginger 
  • 1 lemon 
  • 2 peppers (any colour) 
  • 2 tomatoes 
  • 3 green chillies (optional) 
  • 150g natural yogurt (full fat is best) or vegan equivalent
